Sprint 1 Update (Week 1)

Design Doc Updates, New Artists, Prototype Updates.

Hey everyone! So this week was our first week of classes, meaning that a lot of our processes for the summer had to change. This slowed down development on the actual prototype a bit, but not because we were busy working on other things. Really, it was more a case of pivoting our priorities since we have specific assignments that need to be completed now.

So, in any case, this first week’s progress was a lot more Design Doc and Project Management related than previous weeks, trying to update our processes to work more efficiently in this new situation and trying to organize our ideas into a more cohesive single document than the many documents we had before.

Onto specific progress:

Art

  • Sofia drew a few amazing new concept sketches of the character and their left brace.
    • Some will need some refining, but you’ll see that progress next week.

Development

  • We have the Player sword collisions working now in the Prototype.
    • When it touches an enemy while the player is in the attack state (while they’re hitting the button to attack) the enemy takes damage.

Management

  • Our Task Board on GitKraken and our Task Management processes have been formalized for better organization now that the semester has started.
    • We’re trying to get closer to actual Scrum processes, and we’ve made template cards for different kinds of stories to help with this.
  • A group library has been set up on Zotero for reference collection and citations.
  • 2 new artists were added to the team, Xy and Effie.
    • Xy will be doing modeling, UVing, and texturing for the team, and Effie will be in charge of UI Design.
  • 2 more committee members have also been added: Sean Boyle & Sten McKinzie.

Documentation

  • We’ve nearly completed the Production section of the Design Doc.
    • Basically this section outlines how we’re working on this project.
    • Who’s on the team, what programs we’re using, when we’re meeting, risks we foresee in the project’s future, etc.
  • The Audience and Genre sections of the Design Doc are completed for now.
  • Some major progress has also been made on the Game Design section of the Design Doc.

And that’s all for this week folks. More progress incoming next week.
